This industry standard provides practical advice on the safe use of scaffolding in the workplace. It is for employers, scaffolders, site supervisors and employees.

What it contains

The Scaffolding industry standard is for people who manage hazards and risks related to the design, erection, inspection, use, dismantling and maintenance of scaffold and scaffolding work.

It includes principles and requirements for scaffolds and scaffolding work across a broad range of industries and applications. The standard covers the following topics:

  • who has duties
  • training and competency for those working with scaffolds
  • scaffold planning and selection
  • scaffold design
  • erecting, altering and dismantling scaffolds
  • hazards, including electrical, collapse, falls from height, falling objects, collision, environmental and manual handling hazards
  • emergency procedures when working with scaffolds
  • inspecting and maintaining scaffold
  • scaffold checklists and certificates
  • safe use of harnesses and harness inspection.
