This document outlines the occupational health and safety duties of employers, or people in control of a building, to maintain a register when asbestos has been identified in a building. These duties include reviewing the asbestos register before refurbishment or demolition works are completed. The document explains:
- what the asbestos register must contain, including the location, type, condition and likelihood of asbestos being disturbed by activities in the building
- how and when to review the asbestos register
- how to avoid confusion by clearly stating assumptions made in the registers and noting areas of the building that could not be accessed to check for asbestos
- what to do when handing over the register to a person completing the demolition or refurbishment works
