Worker dies in trench fall

A man in his early 30s has died after falling into a deep trench at a housing estate under construction at Wallan.

It is believed the man was unchaining trenching shields from an excavator when he fell over the edge of the trench shortly before 3pm today.

Worksafe is investigating.

The fatality brings the number of confirmed workplace deaths this year to 15, compared to 16 at the same time last year.
