WorkSafe Clinical Panel
The clinical panel undertake clinical reviews and provide clinical and rehabilitation support and advice to WorkSafe's claims staff, agents and healthcare providers.
Overview
The ultimate objective of the Clinical Panel is to collaborate with agents to ensure timely and appropriate return to work and maximise health outcomes for injured workers.
The Clinical Panel is comprised of highly qualified medical and allied healthcare professionals.
Panel members provide advice to WorkSafe and Agents on individual claim level and contribute to the broader development and implementation of WorkSafe's policies and initiatives to improve health service provision. They support health providers in applying the principles of the Clinical Framework for the Delivery of Health Services when treating injured workers and review outlier provider performance to manage health risks and quality safeguards.
Registrations
WorkSafe welcomes applications from suitably qualified and experienced Medical and Allied Health practitioners in the following categories:
- Medical Practitioners (in particular from the following specialties):
- Addiction Medicine
- General Practice
- Occupational and Environmental Medicine
- Pain Medicine
- Psychiatry
- Rehabilitation Medicine
- Sport and Exercise Medicine
- Physiotherapists
- Clinical and Health Psychologists
- Chiropractors
- Osteopaths
- Occupational Therapists
- Dentists
- Pharmacists
- Prosthetists
- Audiologists
Application process
- Part A – Mandatory criteria
Clinicians must demonstrate and provide evidence that they meet all of the following mandatory criteria in order to be eligible for entry to the Register:
- Are you currently registered, as required by the Health Practitioner National Registration Law (Victoria) Act 2009, with no conditions, undertakings, reprimands, limitations or restrictions on registration? *Not applicable to Audiologists.
- Do you hold or are you insured under a current professional indemnity insurance policy with cover of at least $5million with respect to any single event.
- Have you worked a minimum of 5 years' direct clinical care as a practitioner in your chosen discipline?
- Do you currently maintain active clinical practice of at least 8 hours per week? 'Actvie clinical practice' in this context, means directly treating and managing patients.
- Do you hold a current membership with your relevant peak professional association?
- Do you currently meet the Continuing Professional Development requirements of the relevant registration board?
- Are you available to work from WorkSafe Victoria office 567 Collins Street, Melbourne or a WorkSafe Victoria Agent office as required?
- Do you agree to WorkSafe Victoria's contract Terms and Conditions?
Clinicians should note mandatory requirements for participation describe the minimum standards or essential characteristics they must meet in order for their application to proceed to the evaluation stage. They will be answered 'yes' or 'no'.
A 'no' answer will result in the application being excluded from further participation in the evaluation process.

- Part B – Selection criteria
Screening Questions (seleciton criteria)
The selection criteria and declaration stage will comprise a series of questions that the Applicant will be required to address and submit the responses in an attachment with their application. This stage will be an opportunity for the Applicant to articulate on their professional experience, development and knowledge.
- Provide a brief summary of your relevant clinical experience, including subspecialities and special interest areas. Please include the duration, nature of clinical experience.
- Please provide a brief summary of recent (last five years) professional development, contribution to special interest groups, research, supervision, teaching of students in your clinical discipline. Include details of any involvement in innovative initiatives focused on improving health outcomes.
- Please provide details of your experience treating patients utilising the principles of the Clinical Framework for the Delivery of Health Services.
- Please provide details of any experience in consultancy work for compensable bodies or health insurers. Include details of organisation, nature of consultancy services and duration of engagement. If your role requires liaison with treating health practitioners, please ensure you detail this.
- Please provide details of any experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Please indicate your availability to complete clinical panel work (i.e Number of hours per week/fortnight)
- Provide a brief summary of your relevant clinical experience, including subspecialities and special interest areas. Please include the duration, nature of clinical experience.
- Part C – Professional declaration
All applicants must review and agree to the following statements as a Professional Declaration as well as provide details of two professional referees that WorkSafe can contact in relation to your application.
- Conflict of Interest Declaration – I declare that I am not party to any contract, arrangement or understanding which would or may be perceived to be in conflict with the obligations of a Clinical Advisor to WorkSafe Victoria.
- Have you been found guilty of an offence or subject to any disciplinary action or adverse findings in relation to your duties as a clinician by any court, board, tribunal body, entity or organisation, including a relevant statutory registration body or any interstate or overseas body that carries out similar functions to the relevant statutory registration body? If yes, provide details, including year of complaint and finding.
- Are you currently under investigation or party to any legal proceedings, or have reasons to believe such an investigate or proceedings are pending, before any court, board, tribunal, organisations or body in relation to your conduct, duties or obligations as a practitioner? If yes, provide relevant details.
- If offered a clinical advisor role by WorkSafe – I agree to participate in mandatory induction training, performance feedback reviews and appropriate continuing medical education during the term of the appointment.
- If offered a clinical advisor role by WorkSafe, I agree to engage with the Clinical Panels IT system including use of the online portal in management of referrals. Please provide details of two professional referees that WorkSafe can contact in relation to your application. You will be advised prior to these referees being contacted.
- Conflict of Interest Declaration – I declare that I am not party to any contract, arrangement or understanding which would or may be perceived to be in conflict with the obligations of a Clinical Advisor to WorkSafe Victoria.
